Mr. Prakash Luitel is a seasoned media and communications professional with over 20 years of experience in strategic communications, Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC), knowledge management, multimedia production, and journalism. Holding a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, he has built a distinguished career working with government agencies, development partners, national and international NGOs, and media organizations. He has worked full-time with Search for Common Ground, UNFPA, Winrock International, and Iris Group International, and has provided consulting services to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), BBC Media Action, International Alert, Prevention Collaborative, WFP, and IDS Nepal.

His expertise includes communication strategy development, SBCC programming, knowledge management, social media management, media outreach, digital communication, IEC material development, advocacy campaigns, and capacity building in communications and journalism. Throughout his career, he has designed and implemented communication strategies and behavior change initiatives across diverse thematic areas, including WASH, governance, gender equality, disability and social inclusion, conflict transformation, youth engagement, biodiversity conservation, and community development.

Fluent in Nepali and English, with a working understanding of several regional languages spoken in Nepal, Mr. Luitel engages effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders. He possesses strong internal and external communication skills and is adept at producing high-quality multimedia and communication products.

Mr. Luitel has extensive experience in conceptualizing, producing, and managing television series, radio programs, documentaries, public service announcements (PSAs), digital campaigns, and knowledge products. He has also developed innovative learning and behavior change tools, including comic books, flip charts, game books, training resources, and community engagement materials.

Recognized for translating complex development issues into compelling and audience-focused communication products, Mr. Luitel combines strategic thinking with creative storytelling. He has designed and facilitated national and international training workshops and is a co-author of an experiential learning manual on collaborative leadership and governance, as well as a published research article on Menstrual Hygiene Management in the workplace.

A strong advocate of evidence-based communication, Mr. Luitel remains committed to advancing gender equality, social inclusion, governance and democratic participation, and sustainable development through strategic and impactful communication.

Career

2003-2004

Started career at Radio Nepal as an Intern, then joined the news room at Radio city until Royal coup banning news in FM radio stations

2005-2009

Worked at Radio Kantipur covering socio-political issues, parliamentary affairs, and hosted talkshows.

2010-2018

Worked at Search for Common Ground transforming conflict through cooperative solutions.

2019-2021

Worked as a freelance consultant, consulting with BBC media action, International Alert, Iris Group International, Accountability Lab, WFP, IDS.

2022-2025

Managed media and communications related various portfolios in multiple organizations including UNFPA Nepal, Winrock International, Asian Development Bank (ADB) & IDS Nepal.

2025-2026

Engaged in social research, political analysis, impact study,  and project evaluation for Democracy Resource Centre Nepal (DRCN), International Alert and FWLD. 

2026 onwards

Developing an institution – Bimba Nepal – to design creative and innovative solution to media and communications related gaps that includes designing strategic communication, strengthening stakeholders engagement, documenting impact, sharing stories, producing documentaries, building capacity, enhancing digital communication, optimizing social media presence, and conducting research.

My works span across the platforms of media and communications. After working around 6 years as a mainstream journalist, I shifted to development communication and have continuously been telling the stories for 16 years. Strategic communication, multimedia production, Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC), and filmmaking are the major highlights of my work.
